For many years Taj Gibson was the hidden gem off the bench for the Bulls. He came off the bench for Tyrus Thomas and then Carlos Boozer. Gibson had his fair share of bad luck when it came to starting for the Bulls, but now it seems as if he’s on his way out of Chicago sooner rather than later.
Taj Gibson became a fan favorite with his high energy plays and his slam dunk highlight reel, but all good things come to an end. Some Bulls fans are ready to let go of Taj without even saying goodbye, others wish to keep him despite the front-court being overloaded. The front office has made their position clear about Taj Gibson after drafting yet another power forward in Bobby Portis. However, Taj Gibson’s ankle surgery has held up the process of trade if there was any in general. Gibson would have to pass a physical in order for any trade to go down.
“A few names continue to surface around league sources when talking about Toronto, the biggest is Chicago’s Taj Gibson, then Denver’s Kenneth Faried and then there is a long list of B and C tier names that Toronto might consider at the deadline if all else fails.” – Steve Kyler from Basketball Insiders
The Raptors recently extended Jonas Valanciunas to a $60 million deal. Taj Gibson still has two years and nearly $16 million left on his contract. After watching countless amount of players sign massive deals this summer, Gibson’s deal is considered to be extremely economically friendly. That said, Chicago has their eye on only one Raptor for many years, Terrence Ross. The Raptors have lacked commitment when it comes to extending Ross, but the Bulls would love to entertain the idea if it means they improve at the small forward position.
