Joakim Noah, a fan favorite, might be ready to pack his bags and leave Chicago for the first in his professional career. The two-time Allstar is linked to joining the Orlando Magic with Al Horford, according to the Orlando Sentinel. The two big men were teammates in Florida where they won two National Championships together.
“Under first-year coach Fred Hoiberg, the big man was relegated to bench duty for the first time since his second year in the NBA. In 29 games this season, Noah was averaging less than 22 minutes per night and a career-low 4.3 points per game.” Chicago Sun-Times
It’s clear Joakim Noah’s days are numbered if Fred Hoiberg continues to retain his position as head coach. Noah, soon to be 31 years-old, will be looking for his last big contract. The Orlando Magic have nearly $50 million in cap space to spend next summer. A chance for Noah to rejoin his old head coach could be the headline of the summer. Though, his relationship with Scott Skiles may ring a few unpleasant bells.
If Noah decides to leave, he’ll remain one of the franchise’s all-time greats. He’ll be remembered for his two-time Allstar, two-time All-Defensive Second Team, Defensive Player of the Year, All-NBA First Team, and unlimited memories of the 6’11 Center screaming with passion.
