For a team that is infamously known to stand pat on the trade deadline every year, the Bulls are in the mix of many trade rumors, including one with Toronto. According to Zach Lowe of ESPN, the Bulls have offered Taj Gibson for Patrick Patterson in hopes to retool a team made for Fred Hoiberg.
“The Bulls may also want quality rotation guys instead of future assets; they’ve pitched Toronto on a Taj Gibson-Patrick Patterson swap that would give them a stretch power forward with another season left on a tidy contract — and trim their tax bill.” – Zach Lowe of ESPN
A move that sends the Bulls best paint defender for another shooter could seem as if the Bulls are throwing in the towel this season. However, this could be the first move Gar Forman will be making to help build a roster for Fred Hoiberg’s system. Both forwards in the trade rumor are 6’9 but have very different games.
Besides being younger and a decent three-shooter, Patrick Patterson’s numbers won’t blow you away, but he could spread the floor much better which is what Fred Hoiberg needs. Gibson is averaging 8.0 points per game and 7.0 rebounds per game this season. Gibson’s number skyrocketed after being inserted into the starting lineup. Patterson is averaging 6.3 points per game on 34.4% shooting from behind the arc.
