Jimmy Butler took it upon himself to clear up what his true position is. Butler has been working hard this summer, but he’s focusing on his point guard skills. Jimmy Butler made himself clear by mentioning that this was not a joke. The NBA saw Butler flourish into one of the best two-way players in the league, but he plans to add more to his arsenal going into next season.
“First off, I think I am a point guard. So I’ve done a heck of a lot of ball screen work, ball handling, getting into the paint and still handling, floaters, all that stuff point guards do. If I get a chance, high pick and roll more. I want some triple doubles.” – Jimmy Butler
Nobody should doubt Butler’s heart if they know he’s putting his full effort towards it. With big paychecks comes big responsibilities, and Jimmy Butler is eager to take on that task.
“I’ve got to get my handle right so I can pass and get it to guys where they can make shots. I told Fred. You ask what position I play, I say point guard.” – Jimmy Butler
If this can work out, Fred Hoiberg will have a ton of room for versatility. Hoiberg went on record already to say Doug McDermott will play stretch four. Throw Jimmy Butler in the rotation as a point guard and who knows what the Bulls will have. Obviously, Derrick Rose is their knight and shining armor at the point guard position. However, Butler’s versatility will give the Bulls a heck of a lot more room to play around with.
If you weren’t sure what Jimmy Butler’s next step was going to be going into next season, now you know. The NBA better get ready for the point-forward Jimmy Butler.
