If there’s one thing the Bulls management are actually good at, it’s drafting high quality players with late first round picks; minus Marquis Teague of course. Gar Forman and John Paxson have a strong resume when it comes to draft picks headlining with names like Jimmy Butler, Taj Gibson, and Nikola Mirotic.
The Bulls hope to have found two more gems in the draft with Tony Snell and Bobby Portis. However, with the overwhelming front-court congestion, the Bulls will hold off on pushing Portis into a major role anytime soon. However, it’s time for Tony Snell to step his game up under the new coach.
Tony Snell averaged 6.0 points per game in 19.6 minutes per game last season. Like every other player in the Thibodeau Dog House, Tony Snell could never get into a groove playing with inconsistent minutes. It’s hard to judge Snell’s performance based off his regular season statistics because of the inconsistent minutes he played, but the naked eye can tell you he shows strong potential if he’s put in the right position.
Tony Snell was coveted as one of the best shooters in college basketball but couldn’t get into a proper rhythm once he entered the NBA. With the positive vibes of Hoiberg implementing a new system, Tony Snell should be one of the beneficiary next season. Snell’s three-point percentage skyrocketed last season to 37%, but the Bulls are hoping he ups that number even more this year.
Tony Snell is known to never smile and put his head down and go to work. He’s considered to be a workaholic for the Bulls. An old school mentality player who just wants to win without caring about the fame and glory. He has no connection with any social media outlets like Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter. He just wants to stay focused on working on his craft.
The combination that Tony Snell brings to the court will make every player’s life a lot easier. At 6’7 with long arms, his versatility mixed with his speed makes him an ideal defender. If he could add some muscle and improve his shot, there could be big things lined up for Tony Snell. Fred Hoiberg could use him in many different ways. Don’t be surprised if you see Snell starting next to Rose and Butler midway into the season.
