While it may seem like Bobby Portis is getting the same treatment as any other rookie under Tom Thibodeau in the first two games, it’s much different since Fred Hoiberg has full intentions of playing the rookie despite an overloaded front-court. However, patience will be a factor for Portis moving forward.
“We’re absolutely confident with Bobby giving us minutes. There are going to be times over the course of the year when he plays even with all our bigs healthy.” – Fred Hoiberg
“He handled everything like a pro, and he’s going to continue to work hard. He understands the situation. And he’s learning from some great veterans. Joakim has really taken him under his wing.” – Fred Hoiberg
With the high energy level Bobby Portis provides on the court, there’s no better mentor than Joakim Noah. Noah came into the league under the supervision of Brad Miller, now Noah can be that same mentor to Bobby Portis. With Noah’s age and knees catching up to him, his high IQ about the game still remains to be his strongest teaching tool.
