The Chicago Bulls are currently linked to the Iowa Energy as their D-league team, but the Bulls are trying to work on a possibility to bring a homegrown D-league team to Chicago. The Bulls have confirmed.
The Bulls are working on bringing a team to play in the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates starting next season.
“Playing in the NBA’s official minor league, a Bulls NBADL team will create tremendous opportunities to promote the game in our surrounding communities, extend the reach of the Bulls and deepen our integration with the community.” – Chicago Bulls official statement
Besides providing the city of Chicago with more basketball, the addition of a D-league team in Chicago would benefit the the young players on the Bulls roster. The Bulls would be able to switch their rookies as often as possible between the minor league and the major league. For example, if the Bulls know they wouldn’t be using Bobby Portis for the next two games because the roster is fully healthy, they could have him play for the D-league team for the time being but bring him back as soon as possible. With traveling set at a minimum, the Bulls would have more flexibility to grow their young players.
