If Derrick Rose can talk about his free agency plans two years from now, so will other teams to assure him that there’s a market out there for him. The first team to open their mouth is the New York Knicks, the team where careers go to die.

“Rose will come off the books for the Chicago Bulls, and despite missing approximately 324 games each season, he will be in high demand. Jackson and the Knicks won’t be denied, because if there is one thing New York knows how to do, it is overspend in the summer. Rose will be the latest addition, paired up with Bryant, Anthony and a bunch of castoffs.” -Sports Illustrated’s Matt Verderame

After bringing along Carmelo Anthony, the Knicks will look to add two more players at the end of their careers in Kobe Bryant and Derrick Rose. Both players have suffered major injuries in the past few seasons which kept them from playing, but the Knicks are poised in letting the rest of the NBA know they’re willing to spend big money once the salary cap increases in 2017.

It seemed highly unlikely Derrick Rose would be receiving any sort of maximum money in two years if he continues on the path that he’s on, but the Knicks don’t seem to mind splurging big money on old free agents.

Derrick Rose babbled on about the money that’s being passed around in the NBA and how he can’t wait to get his hands on it in 2017. With two years left on his contract and already being in a maximum deal, his statements raised eyebrows around the league. Though, with the word out that he’s interested in 2017 free agency already, teams will look to start their pitch early. The Knicks already have begun.
