Whoever said Jimmy Butler is in for the money, they’re wrong. Jimmy Butler rejects Adidas massive offer for a 75% pay cut to join the Jordan Brand.
Why would a former 30th pick turn down millions of dollars? Well, sources close to Butler believe the reigning Most Improved Player didn’t want to be the next Adidas victim cursed with injuries. Adidas has a long list of players nursing serious foot injuries. Coincidence? Perhaps. Jimmy Butler decided to publicly take the high road.
“It’s not about the money. I do it because I love the game, for one. I think Mike takes care of his players. He’s always saying how this is a Jordan family.” – Jimmy Butler
Adidas stole James Harden away from Nike as they agreed upon a deal worth $200 million with the Rockets guard. Derrick Rose was their big fish for the past five years, but Adidas will now turn their attention to James Harden’s new shoe line.
It’s not often a player turns down millions of dollars, but it’s not Jimmy Butler’s first time doing it. Last summer Butler turned down $44 million to bet on himself. Consider Butler a smart gambler; he just inked in $95 million maximum deal with the Bulls. The Jordan Brand is lucky to sign Butler on a cheap affordable deal.
