In an anticlimactic finish to the NBA trade deadline, the Bulls were given a big offer by the Celtics in the final hours of the deadline. The Celtics offered multiple first-round picks for Jimmy Butler, according to the Boston Herald.
“According to one source who was linked to a player involved in the potential transaction, the Celtics were willing to give up two first-round draft picks this year, the unprotected pick from the Nets and Dallas’ choice, which is protected if in the top seven.” – Boston Herald
The Boston Celtics were quickly able to rebuild through the draft after trading away Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, and Rajon Rondo for primarily draft picks and young talent. In case Chicago was looking to do the same, the Celtics offered two protected first-round picks they received from the Nets and Mavericks for Jimmy Butler.
Obviously, the Bulls felt Jimmy Butler was their brightest piece they have moving forward. If the Celtics offered the Nets’ 2016 unprotected pick, the headlines could have been very different at the deadline. For the time being, the Bulls feel keeping Butler is their best choice.
